CQUniversity Graduate Attributes

The term “Graduate Attributes” refers to the set of qualities and skills that a university defines as core outcomes for their students. These provide a foundation for students’ employability as well as underlying the development of their human capabilities (CQU, 2010). There are eight graduate attributes and they have been grouped into three categories: generic skills, intellectual nurturing and discipline-specific skills. The latter will be discussed in the subsequent section of this report. CQUniversity Graduate Attributes (CQU, 2010) that students are to have developed to the graduate level of achievement include:

•Communication - Formulate and communicate views to develop an academic argument in a specific discipline.

•Information literacy - Devise and implement strategies to fulfil the information requirements of complex tasks or scenarios across a range of contexts.

•Team Work - Evaluate own strengths and weaknesses as a leader / team member, and / or autonomously working in a team context.

•Information technology competence - Apply appropriate discipline-specific software to provide solutions to questions.

•Problem solving - Formulate strategies to identify, define and solve problems including, as necessary, global perspectives.

•Critical thinking - Reflectively evaluate and think creatively within the context of a specific discipline.

•Cross-cultural competence - Operate effectively within a discipline context in a socially diverse global environment.

•Ethical Practice - Articulate an appropriate personal value system, in terms of social behaviour and civic responsibility.

During the four year Bachelor of Learning Management program I have developed from an individual who did not think he had the ‘brains’ to be a teacher to the point now where I am going to graduate with a GPA of 5.8 and an outstanding teacher rating from Education Queensland. This is a result of hard work and dedication and my ability to attain and develop the CQUniversity Graduate Attributes. This has allowed me to mature into the student/teacher that I am today. I have transferred my knowledge and skills gained from the graduate attributes and applied them to university study and in all facets of my life.
